Blog Blog Blog…
A few moments in life that have led me here.
Some of you know that i am a commercial photographer. I’ve shot many disparate photos trying to instill my point of view into each. From a tabletop of food or computer chips to producing my own little book on Venice and countless Advertisements in-between.
Interestingly, and this is part of what has led me on my search for perspective, I have been proud to be completely superficial regarding my vision. I was once asked by my friend, artist, and mentor, Bob Conge, while i was showing him a beautiful, almost Swiss Design 8x 10 chrome of a table top set up i was excited about; “Why had i placed this element in exactly this position? My reply was, “It looked good”. He continued to query me regarding not just this image, but why i had placed items or produced images in a particular way. Again, I immediately replied “I just liked the way they looked”.
No other reason-Completely Superficial and happy about it! I liked the way the shine, gloss, color, texture looked. I’m not sure how these elements came together in front of my camera, but since they were there-this is how I felt they looked best.
I’ve always taken this approach. No rational reason for why. Years of studying photography, lighting, photographers and their work. But when it came right down to it, i felt it was instinctual.
Is this to be my demise or an approach that can continue and flourish?
As I continue my search for personal and creative development (at Starbucks at the moment), i’ve come to realize that perhaps friends, family, strangers, may be interested in some of the information i come up with. This is totally a personal journey. I just post what i like and find helpful.
I’m searching for perspective, creativity, an unusual take. All the things that seem to allude us in our day to day work. The posts aren’t in any order. The only commonality is that i find them interesting.
One more thing, I’m on a quest to become not only a better Creative, but a better Human. I truly am searching for the path to become one of those people that attracts other people like a magnet!
You know the type. We all know someone that has amazing energy and empathy, such a positive attitude that it makes your day just to be around them…
What a blessing that would be! What an art! Can it be learned or does it have to be instinctual?
This is where I’m at. Looking forward to the journey.
Well known designer, Stefan Sagmeister, suggests “Keeping A Diary Supports Personal Development”. I guess this is the beginning of my shared personal development…
For those of you who know me, thanks for putting up with me.
